Mike Harrell, BS, RRT was formerly Director of Respiratory Care with Charlotte Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in Punta Gorda, FL for several years prior to joining the Passy-Muir Educational Team as a Passy-Muir Clinical Specialist in 2005. Mike also presided as president of the Florida Society of Respiratory Care in where he brought his clinical knowledge and strong advocacy for patient care together to improve respiratory care in the state of Florida. His CRMC team’s clinical work with trach and vent was highlighted in the Joint Commission Perspective on Patient Safety issue in February, 2003, issue which discussed implementing a performance improvement team to implement the written policies and procedures for tracheostomized patients. This critical pathway put into action the use of The Passy-Muir Valves for ventilator dependent patients after early consideration of tracheostomy for the patient. This policy resulted in faster weaning from the ventilator, less time in the ICU and fewer readmissions at CMRC. |

Linda K. Dean, RRT brought her years of experience as an acute, sub-acute and long term respiratory therapist to Passy-Muir as an Educational Consultant in 1997. A Passy-Muir Clinical Specialist since 2005, she continues her clinical practice per diem at Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, Virginia. Linda’s extensive knowledge of respiratory mechanics as well as her remarkable teaching skills combine to make her an extremely effective instructor. Linda has over ten years of experience lecturing on ventilator use of the Passy-Muir Valves with a variety of acute care ventilators. |

Gail M. Sudderth, RRT has over 33 years of clinical experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner practicing in critical care, acute care and long-term settings. Ms. Sudderth’s expertise is focused on weaning and rehabilitation of adult long-term and “hard to wean” tracheostomized and ventilator dependent patients. She was an integral member of the weaning team at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax VA during her tenure as the lead therapist of the 32-bed Intermediate Care Unit. Currently a full-time Clinical Specialist for Passy-Muir, Inc., Ms. Sudderth utilizes her expertise and experience on utilization of the Passy-Muir Valves with ventilator dependent patients while providing clinical education inservices to healthcare professionals in the United States and Canada. She has presented at state and regional professional meetings, as well as medical conventions for Respiratory Care Practitioners, Speech Language Pathologists and specialized medical practitioners. She continues her clinical practice per diem at Inova Fairfax Hospital. |

Julie Kobak, MA, CCC-SLP/L received her B.S. and M.A. at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. She is a certified and licensed speech language pathologist currently working as the Director of Clinical Education for Speech at Passy-Muir, Inc. She has 14 years of experience working with tracheostomized and ventilator dependent patients at both pediatric and adult rehabilitation hospitals, including the Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital for Rehabilitation. As a clinical educator, she has provided numerous lectures and inservices on the the topic of tracheostomy and Passy-Muir Speaking Valves at hospitals, state conferences and at the ASHA convention. Julie has also worked as a clinical supervisor and educational supervisory liaison at Kent State University. |
