Clinicians will learn step-by-step methods for evaluating a patient for use of the Valve both with and without mechanical ventilation. Strategies for restoring communication, improving swallow function, improving secretion management, and restoring pressures in adults who require tracheostomy will be reviewed. Attendees will receive practical application experience during breakout sessions which include demonstrations, hands-on training, and round table discussions. Attendees also will learn the early intervention considerations and strategies for utilizing a no-leak speaking valve through case studies, mock assessments, and patient videos.

Bonus education opportunity: Registered seminar attendees will be granted access to a pre-recorded webinar, Fundamentals: Tracheostomy Tubes to Mechanical Ventilation. Approximately two weeks prior to attending the seminar, a link for this special one-hour webinar will be provided via email. This webinar is only available to seminar attendees and provides an overview of the basics of a tracheostomy tube, cuff management with inflation and deflation, and basic vent terminology. It is highly recommended as a prerequisite to the in-person seminar. To receive continuing education for the webinar, attendees complete the course, quiz, and evaluation.

Speakers

Kristin King, PhD, CCC-SLP
With over 25 years of experience in medical, academic, and industry settings, Dr. King brings a unique perspective to medical speech-language pathology.
