Developing a
Passy-Muir
Valve Protocol in the NICU
Infants with tracheostomy
tubes are at risk for speech-language delays, but use of Passy Muir
Valves may
improve their outcomes. This webinar describes the process the team at
Nationwide Children’s Hospital initiated in order to develop a new
protocol for
Passy-Muir Valve use with tracheostomized and ventilator dependent
infants and
young children in the NICU. Specific details will be provided that
outline
aspects of this protocol such as guidelines for valve candicacy,
assessment,
and progression of use. The
team’s
clinical experience and outcomes with this protocol, including case
studies
will also be shared.
